An essential component of the Providence Hall experience is our physical culture program. As a result of this program, graduates will possess the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors that will enable them to pursue lifelong physical fitness and personal health. Our program has three overarching goals.  First, students will develop a deeper relationship with God through physical activity.  Second, participants will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in meaningful ways.  Third, physical activity will become an indispensable method for engaging our community and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

We at Providence Hall understand the body as a gift from God.  The development and preservation of that gift is therefore a sacred responsibility.  Our intention is to provide students with some unique experiences in fulfilling that responsibility.  In doing so, students will likely encounter innovative curriculum and have many opportunities to expand their horizons regarding physical activity and health. Unlike the traditional sports model used by many schools, our physical culture program places lifetime physical fitness for all students as the top priority.  Although competition can be positive, and athletic proficiency is admirable, we are seeking to develop a physical culture that has vision for the long term. Simply put, a culture of physical activity is much broader than team sports and game play.  We believe a physically cultured individual is one who develops competency in a variety of movement forms, along with the knowledge which should accompany each activity.  With that in mind, students will be expected to participate in all planned curriculums, with very few exceptions.

Physical Education
The foundation of our Physical Culture curriculum occurs during the school day as students are educated in the methods and rationale of personal health and wellness. Classes may be taught through both a physical activity and seminar format.  Students explore perspectives on physical existence and examine the biblical mandate for physical stewardship.  Students also learn to develop the five components of physical fitness and develop a personal fitness portfolio.  The emphasis of the Physical Education department is to produce graduates who have the knowledge, skills, and value that will enable lifelong activity and health. Physical Education curriculum includes, but is not limited to: Ultimate Frisbee, Dance, Self-Defense, Badminton, Cricket, Volleyball, and Hiking/Camping.

Outdoor Pursuits
This department offers students an opportunity to select a specialized activity and extend their knowledge and skills in that area.  Outings are typically scheduled on a weekly basis and occur after school hours.  Students choose from several offerings and receive small-group instruction for a period of 10-12 weeks.  In addition to weekly meetings, the outdoor pursuits program includes overnight and weekend trips, allowing students an opportunity to further develop and apply their skills.  After successfully completing an introductory course, students who so desire may choose to pursue advanced study in any of the disciplines.  Outdoor pursuits offerings include, but are not limited to: Surfing, Rock Climbing, Camping/Hiking, and Cycling.
