Providence Hall Community Celebrates Gym Renovations

October 31, 2012 by Elaine Rottman

The Providence Hall community gathers for prayer in the newly-renovated St. Mary’s Seminary practice gym.

The Providence Hall community gathered Tuesday, October 30, to celebrate and offer prayers of thanksgiving for extensive renovations to the practice gym the school leases from St. Mary’s Seminary, a Catholic retreat center. The players, coaches, parents, administrators, and Board members who undertook the scenic drive up Los Canoas Road were rewarded with the sight of a brightly-lit gym with gleaming hardwood floors featuring a NBA-length court marked with middle school, high school, and college basketball lines and two volleyball courts with brand-new standards and nets.

Athletic Director Keith Luberto was the driving force behind the lease/renovation arrangement with St. Mary’s. “The goal is to assist Providence Hall student-athletes in reaching their full potential by providing a great practice and game experience,” he said. “Although we do not yet have our own home gym, Providence Hall athletic teams practice and play home games in first-rate facilities.”

Varsity and JV, and occasionally, middle school basketball and volleyball teams practice at St. Mary’s Seminary. The majority of the high school basketball and volleyball home games are played in the beautiful Murchinson Gym at Westmont College, while the cross country and track teams frequently train at the new, state-of-the-art Westmont College track.
